The creative and spiritual journey of a (textile) recycler. . .

I have thought about starting a blog for a long time now. I just couldn’t seem to get started. I thought. . what would I say, what would I do and really . . . . . who would care.

Last year I had the great fortune to witness a ‘happening’. As a spouse at a reunion (I know, groan) I was both an observer and participant. This reunion was attended by some of the most creative and talented people on the face of the planet. Really, no exaggeration! But many were holding onto life long insecurities. They didn’t think they were talented enough and embarrassed to perform in front of each other for fear of . . who knows . . . finger pointing, whispers, laughter, ridicule of some sort for sure. Once it was revealed that many shared the same feelings, the healing began. And I was the lucky one. I got to witness it all and benefit as well.

So, the message is that we all think we are not good enough compared to someone else, but we are. Don’t let your fears and insecurities stop you. We can’t measure our own success by someone else’s talents.

This revelation and the kindness / support of strangers has propelled my creative journey to a place I had given up ever getting to. Tho I thought my creative juices were dried up forever, they have merely been reawakened. Many thanks to all involved in my process, including in-part . . List it Tuesday... is ba-aack!

Well, I guess I really needed that break. Our household has been wildly busy during and since the holidays.. and sometimes I think it's a good to step away. Thru it all I've tried to stay creative, even if just mentally. 

So, here's my list for the week. The topic is: What's New (in the new year):
  • working to create a dedicated 'creative space' to keep all of my painting mess
  • get that dining room table cleaned off (which is where the creative stuff is piled at the moment) 
  • working with a friend to develop some new classes... I'll keep you posted
  • reorganizing my sewing area.. badly needed...don't ask..OY!
  • new start at attempting to get healthier
  • (maybe) getting the nerve to show and sell some of my work
  • made new friends from old friends from 40 years ago...plan to maintain connections
  • car repairs completed ensuring safer craft supply pick ups : )
  • committed to using all the cool stuff I have to create with
  • been making new mixed media bits & piece ... and loving it 

I think it's fitting that my first post of the year is for 'List is Tuesday'. I have so enjoyed making the lists, reflecting, growing and joining forces with some really awesome artists. It's been a long day, it's late and my brain has turned a bit mooshy... maybe I'll add to the list tomorrow.

    Having a dedicated creative space is the best ever. I look forward to that myself at some point!

    And now I'll be interested in hearing that you've shown your work. Please go for it!

    Cleaning up my mess and trying to get healthier...I want to add that to my list too : ) I've been as sugar free as possible in the new year...what a challenge that is!
